A commissioned portrait is more than a likeness. It is a lasting record of a person, relationship, or moment in time.
Each portrait begins with a directed photographic study and develops into an original hand-painted work created in oil and mixed media. From the initial conversation through the final painting, the process is collaborative, thoughtful, and tailored to the individual subject.
Commissions are accepted on a limited basis to ensure each work receives the time and attention it requires.

Who Commissions Are For
Portrait commissions are often requested by:

Commissions are taken on a limited basis and are not suited for rushed timelines.
The Process
1. Initial Conversation
We begin with a conversation around the overall direction of the work, including scale, palette, placement, atmosphere, and visual references when applicable. This stage establishes clarity and alignment before work begins.
2. Photography & Reference Development
For portrait commissions, a photography session is scheduled and directed by me. This allows the reference imagery to be created specifically for the painting, with careful attention given to lighting, composition, expression, and atmosphere from the beginning.
Following the session, I curate a selection of images for review, and together we determine the strongest direction for the final work.
In select cases, client supplied reference images may be approved if the lighting, composition, and overall image quality align with the work.
3. Scale, Composition & Pricing
Once the direction of the work is established, we finalize scale, composition, and overall presentation. Guidance is provided throughout this process to help determine the most appropriate size and proportion for the space.
Pricing is based on the size and complexity of the work and is quoted and confirmed before the project begins.
Custom commissions are accepted for works measuring 18 × 24 inches or larger.
Portrait commissions typically begin at 18 X 24 inches at $2,500.
A 50% deposit is required to reserve a commission and begin production.
4. Creation
The painting is developed in the studio over an extended period of time, allowing the work to evolve naturally rather than through a rushed or overly rigid process.
Progress is shared at select stages throughout the development of the painting, allowing for thoughtful refinement while maintaining the integrity of the work.
5. Refinement
At key moments throughout the process, refinements and feedback are welcomed to ensure the work remains aligned with the original vision. I guide when revisions are most useful so each stage feels resolved before moving forward.
6. Completion & Delivery
Most commissions take approximately two to four months, depending on scale, complexity, and current studio schedule.
Finished works are most often shipped rolled in a protective tube for safe transport and international delivery. Stretching, framing, and alternative delivery methods can be arranged upon request.
I remain closely involved through the final stages of the process to ensure the work feels fully resolved before delivery.
